Tried the Viral ‘Glass Skin’ Toner Everyone in Seoul Is Using - Here’s My Honest Review After 7 Days

By Chae ·  4 min read

Okay, you guys. If you’ve been on Korean TikTok or even walked past an Olive Young in the last six months, you’ve seen that toner. You know the one the milky, watery bottle that people pat into their skin seven times like some kind of sacred ritual.

I ignored it for months.
“It’s just toner,” I said. “My skin is fine,” I lied.

Spoiler: my skin was not fine. And after one week of testing the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner (plus a surprise contender from Round Lab), I’m never going back to basic rose water.

Let me walk you through exactly what happened.

The State of My Skin Before (Painfully Honest)

I have dehydrated combo skin; oily forehead, flaky cheeks, and a nose that somehow does both at the same time. In winter? Forget it. My foundation would crack by lunch, but my T-zone would still look like a glazed donut.

I tried hyaluronic acid. I tried thick creams. Nothing gave me that bouncy, wet-looking “glass skin” you see on Korean actresses.

So when a friend in Seoul texted me, “Just buy the Laneige Cream Skin. Stop overthinking,” I finally caved.

What Actually Is ‘Glass Skin’ Toner?

For anyone new to K-beauty; glass skin isn’t about being oily. It’s about being smooth, hydrated, and reflective like a clean window. And the shortcut isn’t a 12-step routine. It’s a cream toner that hydrates and lightly moisturizes at the same time.

The Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is basically water + squalane + white leaf tea water. No sticky finish. No alcohol burn.

I also grabbed the Round Lab Dokdo Toner (their bestseller in Korea) to compare – more on that in a sec.

The 7-Day Test: How I Used It

Morning + night:
1. Cleanse with a gentle foam wash
2. Pat toner in with bare hands (no cotton pad – waste of product)
3. Wait 30 seconds
4. Layer again – and again. I did 3 layers minimum.

Day 1-2:
Honestly? I didn’t feel much. My skin drank it up immediately. No sting, no fragrance. Just felt like… cool water. I was skeptical.

Day 3:
I woke up and my pillow didn’t have dry skin flakes on it. That never happens. My cheeks felt soft to the touch not sticky, just smooth.

Day 5:
I did my makeup without primer. My cushion foundation (Clio Kill Cover) glided on. By 6 PM, no cracks around my mouth. I actually gasped looking in the bathroom mirror.

Day 7
My boyfriend (who never notices anything) said, *“Your skin looks… shiny? But in a good way?”* That’s glass skin, baby.

Laneige vs. Round Lab - Which One Wins?

My pick: Laneige for winter / dry skin. Round Lab for summer or if you hate any film feeling.

If you can only buy one? Laneige changed my skin more visibly.

How to Apply It Like a Korean Skin Expert

Don’t just slap it on. Here’s the method that worked for me:

1. Pour a coin-sized amount into **both palms**
2. Press gently into skin.. don’t rub
3. Wait 10 seconds
4. Repeat 2-3 times
5. Follow with serum or moisturizer (or both)

The key is patting, not swiping. You want the product to absorb, not evaporate.

Would I Repurchase? (And What I Almost Bought Instead)

Yes  100%. I’m already on my second bottle of Laneige.

But I’ll be honest: I almost bought the Dr. Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Cream Essence because everyone on Reddit swore it was “better.” I’m glad I didn’t; it’s oilier and broke out a friend with similar skin.

Also considered Tirtir Milk Skin Toner (cute bottle, viral packaging) but heard it leaves a slight film. Skipped it.

So no, this post isn’t sponsored. I just genuinely love this toner.

The Bottom Line

If you have dehydrated, flaky, or combo skin and you want that glossy, healthy look without heavy creams try the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner. It’s one of those rare K-beauty products that actually delivers on the hype.

And if you’re oily? Go for Round Lab. Your pores will thank you.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried either – or if you want me to review the Tirtir Milk Toner next (despite my hesitation).

Until next time,
